Life’s a beach at Erewash Museum

Dust off the sunhats, pack up the sun cream, gather together the picnic basket and head down to Erewash Museum in Ilkeston for the return of the beach!
The 2018 Summer Beach launches on Saturday 21 July with a Victorian themed beach party with Punch and Judy shows, donkey rides and entertainers. It will then be open Monday to Saturday 11am to 3pm during the six weeks holidays.
This is the third year for the incredibly popular event which will once again see the return of the giant sandpit in the museum garden. During the summer holidays the fun continues with free craft activities, the ice cream cart, giant games, plus special event days including pirate treasure hunting, bug spotting and trains. The beach will run until Saturday 1 September.
The museum itself will be open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm during the school holidays with the exception of Bank Holiday Monday, allowing visitors the chance to take a break from lounging by the beach to take a tour of the museum and its exhibitions or enjoy some delicious treats from the Old Stable Tearoom.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“We’re really excited to be bringing the beach back to Erewash Museum again, it’s a brilliant place to bring the family and have an ice cream while enjoying the summer weather! As well as the beach, visitors can also learn more about our borough by taking a walk around our award winning museum.”
