Lighting up the Solstice

Erewash Museum will host celebrations to mark the Winter Solstice this month, an event organised as part of Erewash Borough Council’s Festival of Light programme.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday 20 December and includes fun craft activities between 11am and 3.30pm.  Admission is free with a small charge of £1.50 for children wanting to take part in the workshops – which will include creating magical illuminations that can be added to the museum gardens.

Residents can also enjoy the free ‘Illumination Finale’ - an hour-long salute to the solstice in the gardens between 4pm and 5pm when there will be a moment of stillness and peace as the sun sets to reveal a nature-inspired installation of light in the gardens.

Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure says:

“This is a magical event that is always popular with families and people of all ages. Enjoy the workshops or simply join us for the finale when the museum gardens will be transformed into an illuminated delight when the sun goes down.”

The Erewash Festival of Light is part of the council’s arts development programme and features workshops and events that celebrate occasions like Harvest Moon, Diwali, Winter Solstice, Christmas and Chinese New Year.
